The Evidence On Dieting

Hey what’s up hello?! I’ve been listening to Trap Queen by Fetty Wap a lot this week. Don’t judge.

I’ve also been thinking about EVIDENCE, and how important it is to pay attention to the hard evidence in your life.

What are the facts for you right now? How GREAT (or kinda bleh) do you feel on a daily basis?

Do you love how you look and feel? Or do you feel just “fine.”

If so, sorry, but I have to call BS on you. “Fine” is no way to live.

There’s a different way.

In these parts, we go for daily JOY and EXCITEMENT and playfulness, and 100% energy.

Are you tolerating some crazy restrictive diet and still not seeing results?

I love the woo woo stuff. I meditate and do yoga daily, and I’m even a trained reiki practitioner (more on that soon!)

BUT, it can be too easy to slip into submissive lala mode, ignore the evidence, and get caught up in modifiers like…

• Well, if I can just stick to this diet I’ll lose weight and everything in my life will run smooth.

• If I buy this size 4 skirt maybe I’ll force myself to lose weight to fit into it.

• I’ll be happy and relaxed once this big project at work is finished.

• I can set aside a day for myself once I get my daughter off to college.

In all these scenarios, we’re ignoring the underlying reality…

• No amount of weight loss will fix another area of your life unless you shift it.

• Guilt and force don’t work. Real talk: That skirt will probably hang in your closet for a year or more. I’ve done it. Never works. The secret is to love your body now (like, actually), then take aligned, effective action to release any weight (physical or emotional) that’s not you, from a place of love. Oh, and you need SUPPORT. No one can do it alone.

• You’ll never be completely happy and relaxed unless you CHOOSE joy and calm in every moment. One of the simplest ways to access this place is through deep breathing (no matter what’s going on) and engagement with the present moment.

• There will always be something you could prioritize before making time for yourself. To reach your goals you have to prioritize your own health and sanity no matter what. You can’t fully support and love others when you’re feeling drained. Giving yourself love and care is an act of service to others.

So yes, that kinda-annoying saying is true: You can’t pour from an empty cup.

And you know what’ll empty your cup real fast? Dieting.

So. Draining.

Diets never worked for me, and they worked for maybe two people I know… meaning, almost no one.
