I saw them riding their Vespas across 9th street, and it reminded me of seeing the really popular girls walk by in high school.
I shrank a little bit inside, feeling like I could never have that or be that.
Even though I was part of that crowd in school, I never felt fully “in.”
I felt like I had to sacrifice aspects of myself.
The conversations bored me.
The parties exhausted me.
So why did I feel myself shrinking, as I saw their shiny red scooters zoom past?
Because they were embodying a dormant element in me that at that moment, I feared I’d never have.
I’ve always wanted a Vespa, since I studied abroad in Florence, Italy at 18.
I associate scooters with freedom, playfulness, and wealth, core elements that are a part of me, and that I want to amplify.
We shrink in these moments because we mistake other people shining as a sign of something we can’t have, rather than what it actually is: A sign of what we can have.
When we’re in proximity to what we want but it’s not ours yet, it’s a sign that it’s meant for us, and that it’s making its way toward us.
Things that make us shrink or feel jealous are actually light posts guiding our way.
Jealousy leads you toward your desires, and toward what already exists in you that you want to amplify.
It shows you what’s possible – your next natural evolution.
That’s why we don’t really get jealous of people with entirely different lifestyles.
They may have incredible things and be incredible people, but for whatever reason, we’re not drawn to them and we don’t see ourselves in them.
We usually only get jealous of people who have and embody our core desires.
People who are mirrors of us in some capacity.
Your desires were not given to you by accident – they live in you for a reason.
Your desires are your destiny, and jealousy lights the way.
So get excited when you get jealous, breathe deeply, come back to yourself, and notice what aspects they have that you want.
Write them down.
Sit with them.
Take aligned action from there, in your own time and in your own way.
You are a one-time thing, completely unique and precious.
Do you feel jealous often?
Can you see how the people and things you’re jealous of are guiding your way?
I’ve experienced this so many times, and I’d love to hear your reflections in the comments below.
If this post resonated with you, please share it.
I want as many souls as possible to embrace their jealousy, allowing it to guide their way.
Jealousy is magic, when you alchemize it.
With so much love,
Lula
