The Big Breakfast Mistake

Most people I know are making a big mistake when it comes to breakfast.

Especially as the weather gets warmer, it’s easy to grab a quick smoothie, açaí bowl or juice and get on with your day.

Ever notice a big craving for croissants or chocolate around 11am after having this type of breakfast? Sluggishness? Digestive issues?

When you eat a cold breakfast, it literally shuts down your digestive system – kind of like freezing it.

The only exceptions are…

1. If you live in a very hot climate and need to cool down.

2. Your constitution and/or condition is very yang.

The big secret that not many people in the health world know is that your digestive system needs to be fired up and nurtured every day with a warm breakfast.

My personal favorite? The Superhuman Breakfast, created by the amazing Laura Hames Franklin.

I’ve been eating this breakfast most days for almost a year and have never felt better.

Why? How?

1. The protein in the eggs revs your metabolism first thing and keeps your blood sugar nice and steady so you can avoid crazy cravings.

2. The sweet potatoes and kale provide lots of fiber (great for digestion), not to mention hundreds of cancer-fighting phytonutrients.

3. Sauerkraut is a powerhouse for the microbiome – it totally turns gut health around and in turn has a huge impact on digestion, energy, skin health, weight loss, and more.

On days I want something lighter, I might skip the sweet potato or start my day with some bone broth and then have a smaller version of the Superhuman Breakfast later on.

How do you start your day? How is your energy through the morning until lunch? Could it be higher?

How’s your digestion and skin health? Are you struggling to lose weight?
